Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh said he will ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms the government in Manipur after winning this year’s elections.
“We will ask PM Modi and the home minister to repeal AFSPA, except from some border districts of Manipur, after the BJP forms the government here,” Biren Singh said even as the results for the Manipur Assembly Elections 2022 are set to be declared on Thursday.
The Manipur Assembly Elections 2022 were held in two phases. The counting of votes began at 8 am on Thursday and the results will be declared by evening.
Biren Singh said, “The match was competitive and very well played. It’s PM Modi’s ‘Sabke Bikash’ mantra that has won.”
Biren Singh said he will go to the Manipur governor once the elections and counting are over. “It would take time to go to the governor. Let the election get over,” he said.
As per the record on the Election Commission website around 2:45 pm, the BJP has won three seats in Manipur and is leading in 17 seats. Meanwhile, Congress has won two seats so far and the Janata Dal (United) has managed to bag three seats.
