Every individual has his/her passion, it could be running,
singing or cooking, but very few are lucky to convert the same
into their profession.
Introducing my most passionate and generous mother in law
Prabha Sachdeva. 15 years ago when I stepped into moms
home I realised a lot of emphasis was laid on food. I clearly
remember my sister in law telling me don’t ever worry about
having a party, Mama will cook for everyone. At that time I was
thinking to myself how can I be expecting my mom in law to do
so. But little did I know that not only for me but she always
made sure there was enough and more food as back up for at
least 6-7 people at all times- and the rest is history.
Speaking of moms classes, she tirelessly preps from chopping
to writing recipes and getting her group of students together.
Almost 70 years old, she is one go getter and straight from the
heart. It’s amazing how she decides the options to be cooked
and manages to conduct her class within 1.5 hours straight. 4
dishes minimum, sometimes 5 which makes us angry as we
know she’s pushing herself.

Apart from teaching her group of young girls, mom also taught
at several charity events and residences of Embassy staff.
Mind you she always carried her own fancy knife for chopping,
which she looks after like a piece of jewellery.
Then came the pandemic, we at home saw that mom was
itching to conduct her classes and was unremittingly writing her
recipes one after the other. It was then that we introduced her
to the platform of Zoom. That was it, her cooking classes
gathered an all new face. She unknowingly stepped into the
world of social media and casually asked us what name should
I give to my account. I instantly said “Prabhacookswithlove”
She is currently trending at 1 K followers without any
promotions at all.
Let’s talk more about what she really cooks. You name it and
you have it. Mom’s forte is playing around with flavours and
throwing in her vast experience of more than 45 years of
professional cooking. As for me I cannot eat a cheesecake,
hummus or guacamole outside of my home.
Good or bad, I am not sure, but my children are the luckiest
kids in the world. There are times when late in the evening they
will decide that they do not want to eat what their Dadi has
prepared for them. With no regret what so ever, She will then
whip up anything they demand. While I’m constantly telling her
not to spoil the children she gives me a deaf ear and continues
to win the hearts of her grandchildren.
I have watched her group of girls grow little by little every year,
all through word of mouth and the goodwill she has gained from
her students. We are truly blessed to have mom in our lives
who makes sure she cooks with sooooo much love that we
rarely opt for eating from outside. God Bless you mom.
