The main suspect in the RPG attack on the Punjab Police headquarters in Mohali was apprehended today in Mumbai, according to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.
The Punjab DGP says that the accused, Charat Singh, is a key worker and friend of the Canadian terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa.
He was caught by the Punjab Police as part of a joint operation with federal agencies and the ATS of Maharashtra.
The Punjab Police had previously stated that Landa was a key figure in the May 9 rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) terror attack at the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali. The incident caused no injuries.
“In a significant breakthrough, # PunjabPolice apprehended Charat Singh, the main accused in the # RPG attack at Intel HQs # Mohali, # Punjab this morning from # Mumbai,” the DGP said in a tweet.
“He is a key operative and associate of # BKI terrorist Lakhbir Singh @ Landa, who is based in Canada,” the DGP said. “@PunjabPoliceInd will strive to make the state crime-free as per the vision of CM @BhagwantMann.”
Last week, the Delhi Police apprehended two terror suspects, one of whom was a minor, in connection with the RPG attack. According to police, the adolescent was also tasked with “eliminating” actor Salman Khan.
Aside from the juvenile, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police arrested another man, Arshdeep Singh, on August 4 in connection with the recovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) in Haryana, according to the Delhi Police. The Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, according to the police, gave the teen and Deepak Surakpur (who is on the run) and Monu Dagar (who is in jail) the job of “eliminating” Khan.
