The Turning Page: Hilarious Tales of a Messy Nomad by Praajakta V.B
After spending most of her life fulfilling everyone’s wish list except her own, 2020 was the year of reflection for the author. She resigned from her corporate job and decided to ‘not decide’ or plan anything for a while. She let her love for travel guide her and boarded a plane to the state that summoned her first, Uttarakhand.
The Turning Page is a collection of humorous stories based on the author’s experiences as she travels through India. So one day, she spends hopping mountains or finding the right spot on the beaches to read her favourite novel, and on the other day, she teaches English to the rural children in the Himalayas but instead gets schooled herself. She works from themed cafes one day and from spooky caves in the Spiti desert on the other. She doesn’t believe in setting alarms; she wakes up to the alarms of the sparrows, cows and goats and spends the night counting stars and naming the constellations after all the fictional heroes she grew up reading about.
These travel stories are weaved with many flashbacks and fun peeks into the rural India of the seventies, the belief system and parenting style of parents from the nineties and a messy, chaotic brain of a nomadic girl who refuses to fit into any of society’s boxes.
Canvasing many regions from North and North-East India, Maharashtra and Goa, The Turning page is a book that highlights the eccentricities of people, the different cultures of India, and what it is like to grow up in the pre-digital era.
The book is available in e-book and paperback format on Amazon and Flipkart. The author has a website of her own, where she occasionally writes humour columns from her daily life or travel experiences. Besides that, her Instagram is a live tour of her travels and anything that doesn’t really fit the proverbial pattern. Before you read her book, get ready to ride a nostalgic trip to your childhood or laugh at the author’s flaws as she tries her best to fit in today’s fast world while you visit the remote hamlets of India.
